Do You Care?
SteQve is in a little bit of a bind. See, his proefessional career
is, like, kicking ass. Like, all over the place. Apparently it's
gotten so good, he likes to work instead of play. This means no
TagYerIt updates, no ServObit updates, no DynaMO source code releases.
But he notices the hits on his web page - he is, after all, a fragile
little human being who still cares that people visit his web page even
though he doesn't update it - but even that's not enough to convince
him to change his evil Real World ways. So, the question becomes...
Do you care? Do you care enough about TagYerIt, ServObit, DynaMO,
Crystal Conflicts, or whatever, to make the effort to send SteQve an
email and tell him so? Well dammit, now's your time to do so. Send
SteQve an email with the subject "Icare" or you may never hear from
him again. Seriously. He's stuck in the Real World, and only your
caring emails can bring him back into the world of Quake. Help him
now, before it's too late. He's at least spent enough time to create
this link so you
can contact him.
Real Life Intrudes
March 12, 1999... Real Life hath intruded upon me in recent months,
but mostly in a good way. Unfortunately this means that I haven't had
time to add any new mods, update the old ones, and what not. Don't
take it personally - my Boston music page is suffering too. But my
job has been going kick-ass, though it's taking up a lot of time, plus
other commitments have kept me away from the land of Quake. Perhaps
sometime in April or May I will get started up again, and who knows
what Quake III will bring.
DeCamper 1.0: The Democratic Camping Deterrent
DeCamper is a server-side, democratic
camping deterrent for Quake 2. The controversial mod, originally
released in January 1998, allows the players on a server to vote on
whether or not to punish an accused Camper. Server operators can
configure harsh or mild penalties, as well as how easy or difficult it
is to vote someone a Camper. Several mechanisms limit potential abuse
of the voting system.
Source code is included in this release, which is the final release by
Two Pole Software. Established mod authors who want to take over
maintenance of the code may contact SteQve.
Check out DeCamper and see for yourself
what all the fuss was about.
DynaMO 2.0: Breathe New Life into Old Maps
Oh, what *is* it you ask? DynaMO, the Dynamic Map Organizer, allows you to add,
remove, replace, or switch any live "entity" in a map, such as
weapons, ammo, etc., without recompiling the map or using a map
editing tool. It's easy to use but powerful enough that expert
mappers may enjoy it too.
Go ahead and check out DynaMO.
20,000 No Frills Pages Can't Be Wrong: The Debate Rages On
Well, thanks to the news sites like Blue's, Telefragged, and Planet Quake, the No Frills page
has reached 20,000 hits in about 11 months. Much appreciation to them.
However, there has been some ongoing criticism regarding my use of the
"No Frills" label. I have written an article titled In Defense of the "No Frills" Label to
address this criticism.
In turn, QuakeGod published a response that did not go unnoticed. And
so in turn I must ask him: Is a Red
Herring a Frill?
Crystal Conflicts: Scavenge to the Death
Crystal Conflicts, formerly codenamed
Project PackRat, was recently honored with third place in the PC Gamer Quake 2 mods contest. It's
a teamplay mod, it's a scavenger hunt, it's a maze, it's a different
game every time - it's all that and the kitchen sink, too.
Check out the Crystal Conflicts web
page to see what Crystal Conflicts is all about, and be sure to check
Telefragged to see
if QuakeGod whines about all the frilly pictures.
New TagYerIt Server
TagYerIt has been offline for a bit while the two main server ops did
weird Real Life (tm) things like getting married, changing jobs,
moving, etc. But now Sati's is back online. You can find it at
sati.norden1.com (192.153.35.35). Rock!
Check out the TagYerIt page if you
don't know what TagYerIt is.
Released Mods
- Crystal Conflicts : Scavenge to the
Death (created 8/28/98). You and your teammates wander aimlessly
about maps and random mazes, looking for message crystals to
deliver to your home base. Do a good job and you get plenty
of bonuses to use against your hapless enemy.
- ServObit 1.4 - Flexible Obituaries
(Death Messages) for Quake 2 v3.14 (updated 4/13/98). Death messages
for all sorts of situations, such as when a female gibs a male with
shrapnel from a Quad hand grenade.
- TagYerIt 1.15: One Player Against
Many (updated 8/17/98). You're It. It's you against the world - at
least until somebody kills you and becomes It instead.
- DeCamper 1.0 - the controversial
mod that fanned the flames in January 1998, released with source
code on December 16, 1998. An old mod with a heart of, er, yellow.

Please forgive this counter's frillishness. I have this thing about wanting
to know how many people visit this page. Maybe it's tied into my sense of
self worth or something, I don't know.
This page has been accessed
times since 12/17/97.
It was last updated 11/8/98, maybe later than that since I don't always
remember to change the date.
