so that the screen shots and game descriptions will make more sense.
The screen shots below will highlight some of the gameplay aspects of
Crystal Conflicts and show the new maps. Click on the small picture
to see a larger one. Sorry, no high-res 3D pix. Call me lazy.
In some pictures, Project Plumber is staring you right in the face,
and you won't even know it. But the mystery of Project Plumber will
be revealed all in good time.
"Watch Your Step" (SteQve)
|
View of the maze from the top ledge of the huge center room. (A new,
random maze is generated for each level!) Note the message crystals
and weapons located within the maze. A railgun and grenade launcher
can be found on the ledge. But watch out - the only way down is to
jump, and you WILL take some damage. Hopefully you have enough health
left to cover it.
|
|
View of the lava room in the bowels of the map. A mesage crystal for
each team resides somewhere in this room. Hopefully it's not YOUR
crystal on top of that ledge - you have to retrieve it and bring it
back to home base so you and your team can get a big bonus.

The imagine team is about to place its 7th crystal at its home base.
But that's a PC Gamer player facing him with a rocket launcher. Will
the imagine player return the 7th crystal to the base, thus giving
himself and his teammates 45 seconds of Quad, 30 seconds of
invulnerability, all weapons (even the BFG that can't be found in the
map) and 150 health? Or will the PC Gamer player frag that guy's
sorry ass and get himself 4 bonus frags for killing an opponent so
close to the home base, and cost the poor green dude 2 frags just to
rub salt in the wound? Sorry, that picture didn't come out. You will
have to wonder who emerged victorious in that little battle.

|
Looks like the red team has only 2 message crystals left to place at
their home base. Wonder if the green team is anywhere around the
remaining two crystals?
|
"Holding Bay" (Rich Wills)
The "Holding Bay" map by Rich Wills is a huge map with lots of nooks
and crannies to hide message crystals. This bad boy is definitely
geared toward larger teams.
"Two-Fold" (Steve Crumpler)
Two-Fold is different than the other maps in that it's not completely
symmetric, i.e. the green team's base is a bit different than the red
team's base.
|
Central maze room. Lots of ledges and catwalks, including a nice
grenade launcher right in the middle. Perfect for lobbing pineapples
onto lowly scavengers below. Teams can get to the catwalks from their
bases, but the elevators only go up. The only way down is to jump.
|
|
Entrance to the green crystal storage room. Only one way in, and only
one way out.
|
|
The red crystal storage room.
|
|
Entrance to one of the team bases. To the left? Death. To the
right? Death.
|
"PackRat Warehouse" (Rich Wills)
|
Dual catwalks, separate entrances to the team bases, and various nooks
and crannies.
|
|
The red crystal room. There may be some goodies in that water - or an
opponent's message crystal.
|
|
Middle room in the red base. Upper level leads to the catwalks.
Lower level leads to the stairs which lead to the maze floor.
|
|
Stairwell in the green base. The right hall goes to an intermediate
room, then to the catwalks. The left hall goes to the green crystal
room. Mmmmmm.... rockets.
