That's me standing in front of my apartment door. It used to be tan. The weird thing is, the lower half of the door is still tan. It's a nice big, thick door, but it's wood, so it coulda burned pretty well. I vaguely recall closing the door when I was running out of the building, which was rapidly filling with smoke (I grabbed a towel on my way out). 3 feet to the left of this door is the entrance to the vestibule where the fire was set. 3 feet behind this door was where I was sitting when the fire was set. (I had heard some weird noises, but I thought it might be a neighbor, and when I started smelling something weird, it didn't smell like fire). When I was leaving, I didn't know where the fire was; all I saw was smoke, and the door to the vestibule was closed so I didn't notice it there, either.
Those of you who know me through my Quake endeavors will recognize the CD I'm holding - it's my copy of Quake II that survived the water and smoke damage. It was lying right next to my computer, so it had some nasty water spots on it. The semi-weird thing is that I had *just* done a full install that night, and I was digging the improved performance! Actually, Asswipe had tried to set the fire about an hour before he/she made the successful lighting in the vestibule, and the fire department actually came by to check things out. They found ashes of something that had been rolled up and set afire. I had no idea at the time that this was happening because I was too busy toasting my friend X's ass in TagYerIt (might as well toss in a promo there). I thought I was teaching X a little lesson in making bold claims about his Quaking prowess; instead I was missing out on an aborted first attempt at arson.
Oh yeah, that 3 days' hair growth on my face? That was partially due to the fact that this picture was taken the following Monday, and clean-shavenness (never a particularly strong point of mine anyway) was kinda low on my list of priorities.
OK, let's step inside my apartment and check out the window facing the vestibule where the fire was set.
