Boston Area Music - Site Shut Down

January 20, 2004: Well, it was a long time coming. I haven't been able to update this site in years. But the last straw just came when the lawyers of a musical educational institution sent a cease-and-desist letter to my ISP because the acronym for "Boston Area Music" happened to match their own trademark in the music world. Yep, I guess you can trademark an acronym and push around the little guy.
I will not name this party, simply because they don't deserve a lick of attention for contributing to the decline of the Internet as a place of free expression.
The following music-related sites happen to use the same acronym as this site did. I don't know if they're being threatened or not.

Hanna-Barbera's "Bam-Bam" character from "The Flintstones." Bam-Bam would rhythmically beat his club while saying "bam! bam! bam!" over and over. And rhythm is a fundamental part of most music. So - will this super-strong tyke get sued? Only time will tell.
Bay Area Music (BAM) magazine - is this long-running rag from San Francisco gonna sing the blues after duking it out with the big boys over a 3-letter coincidence? Or did they already bite the dust? Google doesn't provide a conclusive answer, but this Italian knockoff may be in for a surprise or two.
A whole buncha music artists with "Bam" in their name are just itchin' for infringement.

Bam Margera - he's one of those prankster/silly stunt guys on MTV. MTV is "Music" Television (insert obligatory "there's no music anymore" joke here). Will Bam have to change his own name because he's associated with music? We'll have to wait and see.
The Peavey BAM bass head - ooh! 500 watts! chorus/flange! Could a whopping lawsuit be far behind?
