"New Tales of Ajumba" By Thomas S. Miller, Part I. "Shopping for Ethel" by Elizabeth Weir. "Future Arctic Work" by Donald B. MacMillan. "From the Main Truck" by Charles Boardman Hawes. "The Coming of the Flowers" A little outdoor play in one act, by Lotta Adele Gannett and Harriet Lee. Current Events:  Assistant Secretary of Labor Post cancelled the deportation warrants issued against alleged members of Red, or Communist organizations. Secretary of the Navy Daniels criticizes Admiral Sims for failing to cooperate with his superiors. President Wilson has asked the Admiral to suggest bold, independent plans for meeting the submarine menace.  The downfall of the Carranza regime in Mexico was rapid.  Eugene V. Debs was unanimously nominated for President at the Socialist Party convention in New York. Debs is now in confinement for violation of the war-time espionage act. In Russia the combined Polish and Ukrainian campaign in Southern Russia  proceeded rapidly and successfully; the Bolsheviki have been obliged to evacuate Kiev. Full-page two-color Cream of Wheat advertisement shows Black Mammy holding  a magazine up for white children to see.  On magazine is full-page picture of the black male cook in a Cream of Wheat ad. Caption: "Mammy's Beau."  Also ads for Grandmother's Marmalade, Shuman "Knockabout" suit for boys, Baker's Extracts, Slade's Extracts, Hebron Academy, Burrill's Tooth Powder, Worcester Academy, Abbot Academy, Good Year Lawn Hose. Aunt Sammy's Radio Recipes, Developed by the Bureau of Home Economics, U.S. Department of Agriculture  1927 Washington, DC: United States Department of Agriculture. Compilation of 70 menus and about 300 recipes broadcast  from October 1926 to June 1927 in the "Housekeepers' Chat" programs of the radio service. Menu for Thanksgiving Day includes roast turkey, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, cranberry jelly, lettuce salad, pumpkin or squash pie. Recipes include celery fritters, stuffed eggplant, mock duck, scrapple   (a hog's head may be used); rhubarb betty; many more.  Emma B., who owned this book, added her own recipe for Ambrosia, in 1933, on the last page of the book. 86 pp  15 x 23 cm. Household hints for kitchen (cover floor with oilcloth); new can openers cut a can lid with a clean stroke; clean frying pan with hard crust of bread.
