Text Box: Cincinnati Daily Gazette, Cincinnati, Ohio, Thursday morning, December 10, 1863 Cincinnati, OH: The Daily Gazette.  In the middle of the Civil War this "Western" paper gives Status of the Rebel States: "How did the district held by the rebels become foreign territory in the eyes of the law?"  This issuer features "The President's Message" in which Abraham Lincoln reports to Fellow Citizens of the Senate and House of Representatives that Foreign Neutrality has been preserved, our blockade of Southern ports has been observed and respected, our Slave Trade Treaty with Great Britain has been ratified and carried into execution. Report also includes operations of the Treasury , and report of the Secretary of the Navy. The Secretary of the Navy reports acquisition of armored vessels, increase in seamen from 7000 in 1861 to 24,000 now, the Naval Academy (now located in Newport, RI) is rendering signal service in preparing midshipmen for their highly responsible duties; also detailed plans for Reconstruction, upon cessation of the war.  Separate report from the Secretary of the Navy summarizes 36 page report, including action of blockade over 3549 miles, employing more than 100 vessels. the Navy at present date includes 588 vessels with 4,443 guns. Since December 1862 the Navy has lost or had captured 12 vessels, another 35 destroyed in order to prevent their falling into the hands of the enemy,  sunk in battle or by torpedoes, 4, shipwreck 5 and collision 13.  Secretary also reports on the development of the Monitors by Capt. John Ericsson. In "Latest by Telegraph" report from Washington reports that the President's Message  has been favorably received, but radical wing of the Administration has become more cautious in praise. "The pivotal point of the whole Message is the idea that absolute complete emancipation, will at length be the basis of reconstruction." 4 pp. 60 x 70 cm. A guide to U.S. Navy Insignia including U.S. Marine Corps and Coast Guard with Flags and  Decorations; with over 180 illustrations in color by Peterson, Gordon A.J. and Rankin, Lieut. Robert H., St. John's Military Academy 1942 Racine, WI: Whitman Publishing Company. Little book tells about Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard organization, shows cap and sleeve insignia, Corps devices, specialty and distinguishing marks, aircraft and ship markings, aircraft squadron insignia, Nurse Corps cap insignia, aviation wings and submariner dolphins, more. 62 pp. 14 x 9 cm. Outlook, The, April 16, 1910 by Roosevelt, Theodore 1910 New York, NY: The Outlook Company. "Mr. Roosevelt at Khartum" four pages of photos of Teddy Roosevelt's visit to the Sudan. Speech, "Peace and Justice in the Sudan" includes these words: "I wish I could make every member of a Christian church feel that  just in so far as he spends his time in quarreling with other Christians of other churches he is helping to discredit Christianity in the eyes of the world....Not only does what I am about to say apply to the behavior of Christians toward one another, but of all Christians toward their non-Christian brethren, toward their fellow-citizens of another creed.... I want to see each Christian cultivate the manly virtues."    "After the Verdict" by Isabel C. Barrows: world outside of Russia drew a long breath when the message came that Nikolai Tchaikovsky was acquitted. "The Outlook" and Mrs. Barrows had a long involvement in this trial.  "Hadje Mohmed of Luna Park" by Albert Edwards.  Negro Suffrage in Maryland-- another attempt to deprive the negro of suffrage. Outlook, The, May 20, 1911 by Roosevelt, Theodore 1911 New York, NY: The Outlook Company. "Dickens in America" by Thomas Wentworth Higginson, celebrates approaching centenary of Dickens' birth. Mexican Presidency:  Insurgent leader Madero seems inclined to accept manifesto of President Diaz, while Madero's soldiers attack the town of Juarez. Across the Rio Grande, four Americans reported killed in El Paso. American people have determined that Niagara Falls shall be preserved as one of the scenic wonders of the world. Burton Law restricts amount of water which may be diverted from the Falls for power generation. Strike of workers at Grand Rapids marks a first amongst largely Dutch population working in furniture factories. Armenian Prisoners in the Caucasus. Relatives of 50 Armenians who have been awaiting trial for nearly four years sent telegram to M. Shchleglovitof, Russian Minister of Justice in St. Petersburg. In Novocherkassk prisoners do not change underwear oftener than every three weeks, or bathe  more than once a month. Aroostook War: Disturbance in Maine (to accompany bill H.R. 1176) February 28, 1839; Report (no. 314)  on the Disturbances relating to claims of Great Britain upon the northern part of the State of Maine by Mr. Howard, U.S. Congressman 1839 Washington, DC: United States Congress. Report from Congressman Howard of the Committee on Foreign Affairs relating to disputed territory on the border between New Brunswick, territory of Great Britain, and Maine, of the United States. Canadian and American Lumberjacks ventured into the disputed territory, and in February 1839 some 10,000 men of the Maine Militia marched to the area and the disturbance grew into "The Aroostook War", also called "The Pork and Beans War". This report describes a bill giving to the President of the United States additional powers for the defense of the United States. On March 2, 1839, just two days after this report, Congress debated this issue, and the dispute was finally settled by the signing of the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842. 7 pp. 16 x 24 cm. Circular Letter, A; From the Ministers and Messengers of the several Baptist Churches of the Northamptonshire Association Assembled at Northampton, June 15, 16, 1802 by Fuller, Andrew, D.D. 1807 Montpelier, VT: Samuel Goss, Printer. This is a report of a gathering of ministers and messengers from Churches in Central England, held at the city of Northampton, Staffordshire on June 15 and 16, 1802. Report notes that one church, at Burton-upon-Trent, was dissolved, but then revived. This tract describes baptism , as properly administered only by immersion. Tract discusses the line of distinction between the kingdom of Christ and the kingdom of Satan. 15 pp. 13 x 21.5 cm.
