Text Box: Jews in Germany, The; A Ten Months' Record of the Nazi Régime, Reprinted from The Manchester Guardian, Monday, January 22, 1934 Manchester, UK: The Manchester Guardian. This pamphlet provides a reprint of articles published in The Guardian which survey ten months of anti-semitic treatment in Germany. "While not killing a single Jew, they make it impossible for Jews to live, and it is largely they that have caused the large number of suicides amongst the German Jewry."  Justice Denied. Maltreatment of Jews.  Organized persecution, from top to bottom, with chief organizer  and inspirer the German Chancellor, Adolf Hitler.  Effects on German society as Jewish contributors to arts, music, science-- produces a paradox. New-York Tribune, New-York, Tuesday, January 24, 1860 New York, NY: The New-York Tribune. Report from 36th Congress: Remarks of Senator Douglas regarding communication of Governor of Virginia to President Buchanan, that there was a plan on foot to rescue John Brown; President replied that he was at a loss to find any provision in the Constitution or the laws of the United States to authorize him  to take any steps to preserve the peace between the states. "The Irrepressible Folly: General Panic in the South; People Afraid of Newspapers; Banishment and Hanging in Fashion."  Commentary on Senator Douglas, discussing passing a bill to prevent one state from invading another. Douglas proposes to make it a criminal offense to make any more Free States after the manner of Kansas. Douglas says he wants no Slave code. and this has brought him the ill will of the South.  Editorial support for Senator Cassius M. Clay of Kentucky; Clay has earned acclaim in Congress, in commercial and doughface circles at the North, at John Brown meetings. Edison Life, May-June 1932 Boston, MA: Edison Electric Illuminating Company. Frontispiece portrait of Charles Leavitt Edgar (1860-1932) who died this year on April 14. He was president of Edison for over 32 years. Photo of model kitchen and laundry at 45 Boylston St. has the very latest of labor-saving devices and beautiful appointments. This includes an electric sink of stainless metal and built-in dishwasher. Ventilating fans keep the air cool and clean at all times. Governor of New Hampshire, upon hearing that the Lancaster Bank of Coos County, NH was negotiating sale of stock to persons living outside New Hampshire, and putting in circulation an increased amount of irredeemable paper, ordered Bank commissioners to examine the bank. Immigration: Gardner's Own Views on Immigration by Gardner, Augustus P. 1913 Hamilton, MA: Augustus P. Gardner. Augustus P. Gardner (1865-1918) , was a Congressman when he delivered anti-immigration address at Worcester, Mass. On Oct. 17, 1913. This leaflet summarizes words of his address, after President Taft had vetoed bill restricting immigration. Gardner explains that admitting 1,400,000 new immigrants each year keeps standard of living low and limits ability of recent immigrants and natives to improve their wages and living standard.	1 page 11.2 x 17.8 cm. Rejected Addresses: or the New Theatrum Poetarum,  Tenth Edition 1813 London, England: John Miller, 25, Bow-Street.  Collection of bizarre "addresses" on the occasion of the reopening of Drury Lane Theatre, completely rebuilt after a fire. Funny, disrespectful, shameless humor.  It is interesting to see how much of this is still funny, nearly two centuries later!  In "'Hampshire Farmer's Address"  there's reference to cheap soup: "soup for the poor at a penny a quart, ...mixture of horse's legs, brick dust and old shoes." 'England is a large earthen-ware pipkin.  John Bull is the beef thrown into it. Taxes are the hot water he boils in. Rotten boroughs are the fuel that blazes under this same pipkin..." 127 + 5 pp. adv. 10 x 16.2 cm. Quarter leather, marbled boards, worn.
