Jim Montgomery
Strategist and Writer

"Make the truth persuasive." [Plato]

After thirty-plus years, Jim Montgomery is still pursuing truth in advertising. With a background that includes work as an offset pressman, typesetter, designer, technical writer, marketing services manager, sales promotion manager, printing broker, freelance copywriter, agency vice president and marketing consultant, there aren't many places he hasn't looked.

Along the way, Jim has successfully eluded type-casting. His six-year career as vice president and account supervisor at Mintz & Hoke also included creative direction and writing for Millipore Corporation, one of the agency's largest clients. In addition to several all-time readership records, Millipore creative work received two BPAA ProComm awards, an AMA "Effie" and an Edison award from Science Magazine.

Jim's experience includes nuclear spectroscopy, audio/video, biomedical instrumentation, healthcare, membranes, filters, water softeners, computers and networking (lots of computers and networking), insurance, wine, ultrapure water, socks, bioresearch and liquid chromatography. If pressed, he will admit to thriving on complex, multi-dimensional assignments. Scientific and technical subjects only make the communications challenge more interesting. And if it's never been done before, so much the better.

He attended Wesleyan University on a National Merit Scholarship, majoring in Ethnomusicology, History and Religion. As a guitarist, he's worked with the Darius Brubeck Quartet, and has also given numerous solo classical recitals. Jim holds a fifth degree black belt in Taekwondo (a Korean martial art). As an International Referee, he regularly lends his communication and organizing skills to local, national and international Taekwondo events.
